Support for the Local Businesses and our City Centre Stores
My commitment to Douglas East is founded on actionable initiatives aimed at supporting the essential Manx businesses in our community and ensuring the future prosperity of our city centre through actionable quick policies.
With a proven track record of advocating for small Manx businesses, I prioritise the improvement of infrastructure, support for local initiatives, and the promotion of new activities and events that will encourage our community to return to the city centre.
I recognise that Douglas City Council has already made significant progress in assisting small businesses, and I am eager to continue working closely with them to build on this momentum. Together, we can create an environment that fosters innovation, attracts investment, and enhances the overall vibrancy of our city.

Fill Empty Units, Revitalise the Area
Targeted Support for Local Workers
Driving Footfall to Douglas High Street
Empty shop units are a stain on our High Street, we should legislate to encourage landlords that filled units are more profitable. Rates should increase as properties stay empty.
But also incentivise owners to renovate their properties in particular creating housing within more units,
Our people should be incentivised to work in whatever capacity they are capable of.
Creating training and apprenticeship schemes for our young people
Benefits schemes to help the less fortunate should not have large cliff faces that disincentivise work. More childcare options for working parents
Encouraging tourist and local footfall to Douglas City Centre by making it more enticing. Creating regular events and activities that people want to take part in.
And again, reutilize the upper floors of many buildings to create housing for our people.
