Biography
Hi, I'm Andy and here's why I want to be your MHK
I’ve called Douglas East home since 1977. I have studied, played, lived and worked in this area for almost every day since.
My journey started when my family moved from Ulster to this beautiful Island, where we opened the Candy Store on Queens Promenade. My parents ran a string of small businesses until around 2000.
I still live in the area in Upper Dukes Road, and I think I have a good knowledge of what we need to fix. Growing up in a family of small business owners taught me the importance of hard work, resilience, and the spirit of community.
In 1993, we opened The Original Quids Inn on Loch Prom.
Over the years, I’ve reinvented it as a venue regularly as the nature of our industry changed, I've now transformed it into a lively musical gathering place for locals and visitors alike.
My time in the hospitality industry has not only allowed me to create a welcoming environment but also to advocate for our sector through my roles in the Licensed Victuallers Association and the Licensing Forum.
This representation developed my desire to see all Manx businesses flourish, I am determined to help that happen.
I now also have a stake in and am Operations Manager of Event Management Solutions, this has allowed me further experience in creating community events and dealing with the Public Sector.
Community well-being is close to my heart. I’ve led initiatives that focus on suicide prevention and mental health awareness, promoting small Manx businesses and I’m a strong supporter of our local music industry.
I truly believe that a thriving community is built on connections and support, and "Start a Conversation" and "Mann Made Festivals" are about looking after each other and our businesses.
As I run for the House of Keys, my vision for Douglas East is straightforward: I want to foster a vibrant environment for families, young people, and businesses.
I’ve seen how our government can sometimes overlook the needs of working people, and I’m determined to change that. My goal is to ensure that the voices of Douglas East are not just heard but genuinely represented.
My commitment to you:
Every time I am asked to make a decision my first thoughts will be
"Will this decision make the Island and the lives of Manx Residents better?"
